About volunteering at ZSL

Thank you for thinking about supporting ZSL through volunteering with us – you’ve come to the right place!

We’re ZSL, an international conservation charity devoted to wildlife conservation and education. Our scientists in the laboratory and out in the field, animal management teams at both zoos and our veterinary team contribute wide-ranging skills and experience to both practical conservation and the scientific research that underpins this work.

We involve volunteers in many areas of our work and regularly explore new ways for people to get involved. We currently involve over 500 volunteers in the UK who support us to achieve our charitable objectives and who are an integral part of ZSL. We have a large team of volunteers in our two zoos who champion excellent customer service and enhance our visitors’ day out by supporting with wayfinding and providing information, alongside facilitating fun and engaging interactions. We also have volunteers who support our Animal Teams, Conservation and Science work including fieldwork, informal and formal Education offers, Library and Wildlife Health work.

Volunteers give their time to ZSL in many ways for different reasons, although always because they want to.  Volunteering at ZSL is about mutual benefit and agreement, and volunteers are not under any contractual obligation to work. We are committed to the principle of equal opportunities in all roles that we advertise.
